During a thrilling match, India captain Suryakumar Yadav showcased his skill under pressure, earning praise from USA spinner Harmeet Singh at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India faced challenges against the United States in their group-stage match in Mumbai, losing early wickets. Yet, Suryakumar’s impressive unbeaten 84 off 49 balls helped India post a competitive score.

After the match, Harmeet, who had figures of 4-0-26-2, commended Suryakumar, comparing his composure to that of one of the sport’s great leaders.

“We always imagined it, but success came late for him. He has the poise now that MS Dhoni had later in his career. His flair as a stroke player was evident, and he played a sensible innings to finish the game,” Harmeet said, drawing parallels to the legendary former India captain.

Harmeet emphasized the experience Suryakumar brings, noting that he demonstrates a maturity similar to that of Virat Kohli at his best.

“The maturity that (players like) Virat (Kohli) have shows. He played a composed innings, reflecting the experience he’s gained and the role he is fulfilling. He is doing a great job,” he added.

Outstanding Performance Praised by Virender Sehwag

Former opener Virender Sehwag also praised Suryakumar’s stellar performance, which was crucial in securing a win for India against the USA.

“If the Indian team had been all out for just 100, we wouldn’t consider that a weak team like the USA beat India. They have qualified for the World Cup. That’s why I believe this was one of Suryakumar Yadav’s best innings. I always say to focus on the ball, not the bowler. If it pitches in the right area, it deserves respect. Going for big shots on good deliveries can lead to dismissals,” Sehwag highlighted the significance of Suryakumar’s innings.

India began their campaign with a tight win over the USA and are set to face Namibia on February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
