Sourav Ganguly, former captain of the Indian Cricket team, shared his thoughts on the upcoming India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match set for February 15, 2026. He expressed excitement that the match is confirmed despite ongoing political issues. Ganguly welcomed the chance for fans to witness this much-anticipated contest, particularly in light of recent tensions surrounding the Pakistan Cricket Board’s threats to boycott the tournament after Bangladesh’s exit.
In a recent interview, Ganguly said he sees India as the stronger team ahead of the match. However, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, which can lead to unexpected outcomes.
“India is a very strong team and I believe they are the favorites. Still, in T20 cricket, surprises can happen. Pakistan will need to play exceptionally well to beat India,” said Ganguly.
Ganguly also commented on Pakistan’s spinner Usman Tariq, saying, “Indian batters are experienced in handling spin bowling, so I’m confident they will manage it well.”
He emphasized the importance of the match happening, stating, “Sports and politics should be separate. This India-Pakistan game is important and should go ahead.”
When discussing India’s lineup, Ganguly mentioned Sanju Samson as a suitable replacement for Abhishek Sharma, who is recovering from a stomach ailment. Ganguly believes Samson can fit well into the team.
“The team is balanced, and no changes are needed. If Sharma is fit, he will come back in. Otherwise, Samson will play,” he noted.
“Sanju is a talented player and should be given opportunities. No player should be dropped after just two poor performances,” he added.
