Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan is facing serious health issues, particularly concerning his vision, while in custody. Reports indicate that he has lost most of the sight in his right eye, raising alarm among the Cricket community.

At 73, Khan is serving several prison sentences and dealing with a severe eye condition. His legal team asserts that government negligence has left him with very limited vision.

Wasim Akram, a legendary fast bowler and former mentee of Khan, took to X to urge the authorities to ensure that Khan receives necessary medical treatment.

“It is heartbreaking to hear Imran Khan is facing health problems. I hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he gets the best medical care. Wishing him strength and a full recovery,” said Akram on X, previously Twitter.

Akram expressed his deep respect for Khan, stating that the news about his health is very distressing.

Former pace bowler Waqar Younis also set aside political considerations in his appeal, calling Khan a national hero for leading Pakistan to its cricketing heights and for establishing a cancer hospital that has helped many. He emphasized the need for timely medical attention.

“Putting politics aside, our national hero who brought us great glory and established a cancer hospital is in a health emergency and needs urgent treatment. I request the authorities to provide appropriate care swiftly. Get well soon, skipper,” Waqar wrote on the same platform.

This plea for medical assistance has been echoed by other former cricket stars, including Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar, who highlighted the right to healthcare and sent their best wishes for Khan’s recovery.

Imran Khan is regarded as one of cricket’s greatest all-rounders, having played 88 Tests and 175 ODIs for Pakistan, and is among an elite group of players who have scored over 3000 runs and taken over 300 wickets in Test matches.

Concerns about Khan’s health have united the cricketing community across political lines. Former teammates are advocating for authorities to ensure he receives the urgent medical care he needs. Many believe that safeguarding his health is not only a legal responsibility but also a tribute to his outstanding legacy as a national icon and World Cup-winning captain.
