The USA started strongly, with openers Monank Patel and Shayan Jahangir putting up 65 runs in the first six overs. Patel was especially aggressive, reaching fifty in just 27 balls. However, the USA faced a setback as they went from 68/0 to 103/3 due to Namibia’s Willem Myburgh and Gerhard Erasmus slowing their momentum.

The turning point came when Krishnamurthi took the field. He scored an impressive unbeaten 68 off just 33 balls, featuring four boundaries and seven sixes. He reached his fifty quickly in just 23 balls, capitalizing on mistakes made by the Namibian bowlers. Partnering with Milind Kumar (28 off 20), they formed a significant 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket, leading the USA to a strong total of 199/4 in 20 overs. Namibia struggled to contain him, with bowlers like Ruben Trumpelmann and JJ Smit having a tough time with an economy over 13.

USA bowling dominates Namibia’s chase

Facing a target of 200, Namibia started its innings with determination. Louren Steenkamp scored 58 off 39 balls, helping his team keep pace. Together with Jan Frylinck, they helped Namibia reach 50 runs during the powerplay. However, the USA’s bowling where Shadley van Schalkwyk was key, taking crucial wickets including Frylinck and captain Erasmus, who was dismissed for a duck.

As the required run rate increased, pressure mounted on Namibia’s middle order. Saurabh Netravalkar and Ali Khan effectively restricted the runs during the middle overs. Netravalkar’s wicket of Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (28) weakened Namibia’s chase. Even with a late effort from Smit (31), Namibia struggled to score against the USA’s varied bowling attack.

The final overs solidified the USA’s control, with Shubham Ranjane and Khan ensuring a smooth finish, limiting Namibia to 168/6. This 31-run victory brings the USA closer to the knockout rounds, boosted by a strong net run rate and rising star in Krishnamurthi.
