Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s leading spinner, made history during the T20 World Cup 2026 match against the UAE on February 16 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

He reached a major milestone by taking his 700th wicket in T20 Cricket, establishing himself as one of the top bowlers in the world. After not taking a wicket in his first three overs, he claimed his milestone in the 16th over.

Rashid’s 700th wicket came when UAE’s Muhammad Arfan was dismissed in an unusual manner. He finished the match with figures of 1 for 24 in his four overs.

With this achievement, Rashid became the first bowler to reach 700 wickets in T20 cricket, adding another highlight to his career.

Australia’s Dirk Nannes was the first bowler to achieve 100 and 200 wickets in the format. West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo was the first to reach 300 wickets in 2016, 400 in 2017, 500 in 2020, and 600 in 2022.

Since his debut in 2015, Rashid has been a key player for Afghanistan, taking 700 wickets in 518 T20 matches globally, maintaining an average below 20 and an economy rate under 7. He has recorded 18 four-wicket hauls and 4 five-wicket hauls in T20 cricket.

In T20 Internationals, Rashid has taken 191 wickets in just 114 matches, with an impressive average of 13.77, the highest in T20I history. He is only 10 wickets away from becoming the first cricketer to reach 200 T20I wickets.

Rashid has also made a significant impact in franchise leagues worldwide, especially in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has taken 158 wickets in 136 matches.
