Ishan Kishan’s impressive 77 runs were key as India secured a solid win against Pakistan in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup group match in Colombo. Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes Kishan’s performance was a result of effective planning and awareness of situations.
Promoting Kishan to the top of the order has been beneficial for India, and Bangar noted the importance of clear roles and support from the management in Kishan’s recent success.
“To bat like Ishan Kishan did against Pakistan, there are some factors at play. First, he is batting at the top of the order and has the team’s backing to take risks, which are currently paying off,” Bangar said on JioStar.
Bangar also emphasized the value of form in T20 Cricket, noting that Kishan is making the most of his current good run.
“Second, he is in form, and T20 cricket favors players who are performing well. He is capitalizing on this form with a strategic approach. He wasn’t targeting every bowler indiscriminately,” he added.
Kishan’s approach against Pakistan’s bowlers stood out. Bangar explained how the opener carefully selected his targets, especially against Shaheen Shah Afridi. Despite Pakistan’s strong fast-bowling history, Afridi had limited impact in the match, with Kishan scoring significantly during one of his two overs.
“Until the fourth over, he attacked Shaheen Shah Afridi early, respected the off-spinners, and dominated the leg-spinners. It was a well-calculated innings. While he faced most of the balls, he managed the striking well and made 77 of the 88 runs on the board,” Bangar said.
India’s next match is against the Netherlands on Wednesday, with their place in the Super 8 already secured. With key players in form and clear roles established, India looks ready to maintain their momentum.
