WPL 2026: Wareham Reflects on Making an Impact With Bat and Ball

Pakistan’s defeat to India at R Premadasa Stadium last Sunday affected their chances in the Super 8. It highlighted the growing gap between the teams and sent Pakistan close to another early exit. Despite this, a spot in the Super 8 is still possible. A win against Namibia in their last Group A game at the SSC on Wednesday would secure their progression. However, rain is expected, which could impact this crucial match.

Pakistan returns to the SSC Stadium, a place where they have previously won against the USA and the Netherlands. Their experience at R Premadasa was disappointing, as India claimed a 61-run victory, making the T20 World Cup record between them 8-1 in favor of India.

This loss placed Pakistan in third position in the standings. They have wins against the USA and the Netherlands, with their only loss being to India. Both Pakistan and India have the same points, but Pakistan trails due to a lower net run rate. The USA has had a mixed performance, winning against the Netherlands and Namibia but losing to India and Pakistan.

Currently, Pakistan is behind the USA, who have four points. To advance to the next stage, they need to beat winless Namibia. However, rain could spoil their plans in this crucial matchup.

Forecasts show a rainy afternoon in Colombo on Wednesday. There’s a 60% chance of rain at 1 pm, increasing to 70% by 2 pm and reaching 90% around the 3 pm game time.

How does a washout impact qualification?

If the match faces interruptions, officials must complete it by 7:10 pm, the designated cut-off time. According to ICC rules for the 2026 T20 World Cup, at least five overs per side must be played for a valid result in group matches.

No reserve days are available for group-stage matches. If the game is called off, both teams would share the points. This would give Pakistan five points, enabling them to surpass the USA and secure second place, regardless of net run rate.
