Sri Lanka Women have announced a strong 15-member squad for their upcoming ODI tour of the West Indies, with experienced player Chamari Athapaththu serving as captain. This series is an important opportunity for the team to enhance their performance in the 50-over format.

The National Cricket Selection Committee has confirmed the squad for the three-match One-Day International series, starting on February 20 at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada. This tour is a chance for Sri Lanka to test their skill and consistency against a competitive West Indies team on home soil.

Leadership and experience at the core

Skipper Athapaththu plays a crucial role for Sri Lanka Women. Renowned for her solid batting and ability to lead in tough situations, she brings valuable experience and strategic insight. Her guidance has been key for a relatively young squad in recent years.

The batting lineup combines stability and excitement. Hasini Perera and Vishmi Gunaratne are expected to provide a strong start, while Harshitha Samarawickrama and Nilakshi De Silva add support in the middle order. Emerging talents like Imesha Dulani and Kaushini Nuthyangana have also been selected, showing the selectors’ focus on nurturing new players.

Balanced attack for Caribbean conditions

Sri Lanka’s bowling lineup is equipped to handle various conditions in the Caribbean. Experienced spinner Inoka Ranaweera will lead the spin attack alongside Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari, offering variety during crucial middle overs.

The pace bowling includes Nimasha Madushani, Malki Madara and Kawya Kavindi, providing options both with the new ball and towards the end of innings. Dewmi Vihanga and Rashmika Sewwandi add depth to the bowling choices, allowing for adaptable team configurations based on the conditions.

Caribbean pitches typically support both seam bowlers early in the game and spinners later, making the balance of the squad essential. The selectors have thoughtfully considered these aspects while finalizing the touring team.
