Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is set to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the first time. The Hyderabad Kingsmen have signed him for the PSL 2026 season, marking a significant moment for the team ahead of their debut season.
This signing comes just months after Maxwell opted out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, surprising many in the Cricket community. Although he has played in the IPL for several years, he often struggled to make a consistent impact, but fans enjoyed watching him play.
Now, Maxwell will join the Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL 2026, and many view this as a new chapter in his career.
The experienced all-rounder is expected to bring valuable experience, strong hitting skills, and leadership to the franchise, potentially elevating the team’s visibility in the league.
Maxwell’s Departure from IPL Auction
In December 2025, Glenn Maxwell announced via a message that he would not participate in the IPL 2026 auction. He expressed gratitude toward the teams and fans for their support.
In his tweet, Maxwell stated:
“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me. The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class teammates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me forever.”
Maxwell isn’t the only player transitioning to the PSL, with other notable players like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Faf du Plessis, and Moeen Ali also opting out of the IPL auction for the PSL. Many of them are in the latter stages of their careers and wished to avoid going unsold.
This move comes after Maxwell’s underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, where he scored only 62 runs in three innings, averaging 20.67.
Despite his recent struggles, the Hyderabad Kingsmen have shown strong confidence in his abilities. They believe his experience and potential to win matches will be beneficial for constructing a competitive team.
Maxwell is set to earn around ₹1.47 crore in the PSL 2026, which is less than the ₹4.20 crore he received with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. However, this move represents a fresh start for him and a chance to reclaim his form.
