Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has criticized the current team for showing disrespect towards the head coach and support staff. He believes that the team’s decline began after their victory over India in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Yousuf emphasized the importance of humility, regardless of the results.
He shared that, in his time, players always respected their seniors, a practice that seems lacking in the present squad.
“After defeating India in 2021, Pakistani players started to think they were the best and that no one exceeded them. They became disrespectful. Players should listen to their head coach when he speaks. The downturn began after that win. Staying grounded is crucial. Saeed Anwar and Inzamam-ul-Haq were great players, yet they always listened to Javed Miandad,” he stated on the ‘How Does It Work?’ podcast.
Yousuf expressed his discontent with the Salman Ali Agha-led team following their loss to India. “To return to our best, we must eliminate political interference and personal agendas from Cricket. This is a difficult time, and I am saddened. Incompetent individuals should not be part of the team or administration,” he remarked.
Pakistan secured a victory against Namibia in their last group stage match, qualifying for the Super 8 stage in the T20 World Cup.
