The T20 World Cup 2026 is entering its final stages, and excitement is building as the Super 8 round begins. Former Indian head coach and renowned batter Rahul Dravid has shared his thoughts on what he hopes to see in the tournament’s final. Instead of the usual matchups, Dravid envisions a scenario that could change the landscape of Cricket globally.
Rahul Dravid shares his ideal final for T20 World Cup 2026
In an interview, Dravid expressed that his “dream final” goes beyond a simple victory for India. While he mentioned he’d be pleased to see “India against anybody,” he specifically hopes to see a less popular team face India in the final. Dravid singled out Zimbabwe as a nation he would love to see compete in the final at Ahmedabad on March 8.
“I would take India versus anybody. India versus Zimbabwe? That would be great for Zimbabwe cricket. It would be amazing if Zimbabwe could make it,” he noted.
Dravid’s views are not just wishful thinking; they are backed by the impressive performances of emerging teams in this tournament. Zimbabwe, under captain Sikandar Raza, has produced remarkable upsets, defeating former champions Australia and Sri Lanka in the group stage.
He commended the “fantastic cricket” played by these countries, highlighting that their success is a significant storyline of the 2026 World Cup. Even teams that didn’t advance to the Super 8s showcased a boldness that has enhanced the sport’s global interest.
Dravid on India’s potential in the tournament
Shifting focus to the defending champions, Dravid expressed strong confidence in the team led by Suryakumar Yadav. He emphasized that India’s depth is a key advantage, preventing over-reliance on one or two star players.
However, Dravid acknowledged that T20 is a very unpredictable format. He advised the Indian team to maintain their focus and trust their process, reminding everyone that one poor performance in knockout matches can lead to an unexpected loss.
“They are doing really well. They have been playing some fantastic cricket in the last couple of years. As the tournament moves toward the Super 8s and into the knockout rounds, critical moments will define the outcome. India’s depth is a huge benefit, but T20 cricket has its uncertainties. It’s the most unpredictable format, and as I’ve learned as a coach, you can lose on any day. Stick to the process, do your best, and hope for the best,” added Dravid.
