Sahibzada Farhan has become Pakistan’s most reliable T20I top-order batsman lately. The 30-year-old has topped the run charts in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Farhan is just three runs away from breaking the world record set by Virat Kohli in the 2014 tournament. He has a great chance to reach this goal in Pakistan’s two Super 8 matches this week.

Currently, Farhan leads the scoring with 220 runs in four innings, averaging 73.33. With at least two more matches to play, the seasoned opener could surpass Kohli’s record.

Kohli scored 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup across six games, maintaining an impressive average of 106.33 that has stood the test of time.

When asked about potentially breaking Kohli’s record, Farhan emphasized that his priority is to help Pakistan win. He has maintained a strong strike rate of 164.17 in this tournament, scoring a century off 58 balls against Namibia and 73 runs off 41 balls against the USA, leading Pakistan to victory in both matches.

Regardless of whether he breaks the record, Farhan has already made a significant impact. He has received two Player of the Match awards in just four innings during this World Cup. His outstanding performance, along with crucial contributions from Faheem Ashraf and the bowling attack, has helped Pakistan secure three wins out of four Group A matches, ensuring their progression to the Super 8s.

Pakistan’s next match is against England in their second Group 2 Super 8 clash on Tuesday, February 24, at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. Their critical match against New Zealand was cut short due to rain, forcing the game to be abandoned in Colombo.
