A video of India head coach Gautam Gambhir talking with Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has gained attention on social media during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
The clip, taken inside the team bus, shows Gambhir attentively listening to Abhishek. Although the content of their conversation is unclear, both men’s body language indicates it was serious. Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate also later joined them.

The video’s popularity has led to various online reactions. Many believe their discussion may relate to Abhishek’s poor performance in the tournament so far.
This interaction has gained attention as Abhishek has faced challenges with his batting. Team India has reached Chennai for their upcoming Super 8 match against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Abhishek yet to make a significant impact
Abhishek Sharma came into the T20 World Cup 2026 with high hopes after strong performances against New Zealand just before the tournament. However, he has struggled to find his form on this larger stage.
He only scored in India’s Super 8 match against South Africa, getting 15 runs off 12 balls in a key game. Prior to that, he had three consecutive ducks and missed one match due to illness. With India looking for a strong finish, all eyes are now on Abhishek to deliver with the bat.
Meanwhile, India’s journey to the semifinals has become difficult after a poor performance against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 22. After facing Zimbabwe, India will play the strong West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1.
Given India’s current Net Run Rate (NRR), they need to win both matches by a significant margin and hope that no team other than South Africa remains unbeaten in Group 1.
