Aakash Chopra highlighted KL Rahul’s impressive stats against the Mumbai Indians before their match against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 4, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Rahul has scored 976 runs against the Mumbai franchise, averaging 69.71, including three centuries.
In their opening match of the season against the Lucknow Super Giants, Rahul and Pathum Nissanka struggled, scoring 0 and 1, respectively. Chopra emphasized that the Capitals will need a strong performance from their opening pair against the Mumbai team.
“KL Rahul has scored the most runs against the Mumbai Indians. He notably had a first-ball duck last match, but he might perform better this time, as runs will be crucial,” he mentioned in a video on his YouTube channel.
Chopra also suggested that Dushmantha Chameera and Lungi Ngidi might not play together for the Capitals soon, as Ngidi performed well alongside Indian bowlers Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan in the previous game against the Super Giants.
“They have strong bowling options. I doubt they’ll make changes now since the last match went well,” he noted.
Jasprit Bumrah’s performance in Delhi
Chopra acknowledged that while Jasprit Bumrah has taken many wickets against the Capitals, his statistics at the Arun Jaitley Stadium are not great.
“He has the highest wicket tally against this team, but his stats in Delhi aren’t impressive. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma perform well at this venue,” he added.
Chopra advised MI captain Hardik Pandya to utilize veteran New Zealand bowler Trent Boult more effectively with the new ball.
“I hope Mumbai uses Trent Boult for two overs in the first six. Bowling four one-over spells isn’t getting the best out of him. Hardik should try this approach,” he suggested.
The former cricketer noted that the Capitals have better spin options which could give them an edge in an afternoon match, though he indicated that the MI batting lineup remains a significant threat.
