The Rajasthan Royals (RR) continued their strong performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, winning their fourth consecutive match. On Friday, April 11, they beat the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Dhruv Jurel played key roles, scoring 78 runs off 26 balls and 81 not out off 43 balls, respectively, as they chased down a target of 202 runs in just 18 overs.
Commentator Simon Doull praised Jurel’s performance, noting his composure during a tense period when the Royals lost three quick wickets. In IPL 2026, Jurel has accumulated 176 runs across four matches, averaging 58.67 with a strike rate of 181.45.
Doull mentioned that trading Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings has allowed Jurel to move up to No. 3 in the batting order.
“The chase was managed well by Dhruv Jurel. Vaibhav set the pace for the chase, but Jurel’s calmness after the loss of wickets was impressive. The No. 3 position fits him perfectly. The trade of Sanju Samson has given them a stable opening combination and allowed them to promote Jurel,” Doull said.
“This is exactly what you expect from your No. 3 batter. He finished the job without getting out when runs were still needed. His knock might not have been as flashy as Suryavanshi’s, but it was controlled and vital. His ability to find gaps for singles and twos is a significant strength. Jurel also handles spin well, which is another advantage in his game,” he added.
Doull praises Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s skills
Doull noted that Suryavanshi plays intelligently, focusing on hitting balls within his reach rather than aimlessly slogging. He highlighted the technique and wrist movement displayed by the 15-year-old.
“He plays like it’s a video game. When faced with a good delivery, he knows how to respect it—no mindless slogging involved. His shots are well-crafted, and he didn’t play any reckless shots. He has control and isn’t just trying to hit everything out of the park. His batting style has a refined quality to it,” Doull explained.
“His bat swing and wrist action are reminiscent of great players. If bowlers want to minimize his impact, they must deploy fielders strategically and bowl wide. You cannot just bowl straight and hope for the best,” he concluded.
