Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has said that Cheteshwar Pujara’s solid technique was the cornerstone for India’s multiple wins in the longest format, adding that the 2018-19 series win in Australia wouldn’t have been possible without his contributions.
Pujara, after featuring in 103 Tests and amassing 7,195 runs at an average of 43.6, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing down the curtain on a career that symbolised grit.
Pujara stands in eighth place in the all-time leading run-getters from India. He amassed 21301 runs in first-class cricket as well.
“Pujara, it was always reassuring to see you walk out at No.3. You brought calm, courage and a deep love for Tests every time you played. Your solid technique, patience and composure under pressure have been a pillar for the team,” Tendulkar tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

On Pujara’s Test debut against Australia in Bengaluru in 2010, Tendulkar was part of the playing XI, but their first innings partnership lasted just four runs after the former was dismissed for four by Mitchell Johnson.
But Pujara and Tendulkar built a 57-run partnership in India’s second innings, before the former was dismissed by Nathan Hauritz for a brilliant 72.
“Thank you for your kind words, Sachin Paaji. Your constant support has always encouraged me 🙏,” Pujara replied.
With the new domestic season approaching, many expected Pujara to represent Saurashtra once again, but he felt it was the right moment to bid farewell.
