The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will hold elections for a new president on June 7, as announced by the board’s election commission. During this process, general members, known as councillors, will elect 23 out of 25 board directors, while the government will appoint the remaining two. The BCB President will be selected from these directors and will serve a four-year term.
The current BCB president is Tamim Iqbal, who has been leading an ad-hoc committee formed by the government in April. He is also among the councillors and will oversee the elections for both the directors and the president on June 7.
The last BCB elections took place in October 2025, where Aminul Islam, another former captain, won decisively. However, an investigation committee set up by the government found significant misuse of power during those elections.
Only a few members from Aminul’s board will be participating in the upcoming elections. Reportedly, Aminul is currently in Australia, and another former president, Faruque Ahmed, who was part of Aminul’s group, will not take part.
Final voters’ list to be unveiled soon
The draft list of voters for selecting the 23 directors was released on Sunday, and the final list will be published by the board later this week.
The elections will occur in three categories. The first will elect ten directors from divisions and districts across Bangladesh. The second will choose 12 directors representing Dhaka clubs. Finally, one director will be selected from former cricketers, national captains, security forces, and councillors nominated by the National Sports Council. The government will appoint the last two directors for the board.
