Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah may play for India in their one-off Test against Afghanistan in June, pending approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) medical team.

Bumrah is currently involved in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) and has participated in all 12 matches with the Mumbai Indians (MI). He has also served as the stand-in captain in games against the Punjab Kings and is expected to play in two more matches this season.

According to sources at the BCCI, the plan is for Bumrah to participate in the Test match against Afghanistan, but he will not play in the following three-match One Day International (ODI) series.

“If the medical team approves Bumrah’s workload as acceptable, he may play in the Test match against Afghanistan. However, he will not play in the ODI series. If there is any concern regarding his workload, he will be rested entirely for the series,” a BCCI source stated.

Prince Yadav poised for his first India call-up

With the Afghanistan series closely following the IPL, India is not expected to make major changes to their Test and ODI squads.

As per the source mentioned, selectors are likely to include Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Prince Yadav in the ODI team. The 24-year-old is having a standout IPL season with 16 wickets, the highest for his team, which contributed to his absence from the India A squad for the tri-series in Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill, who is leading the Gujarat Titans in the tournament, is anticipated to captain both the Test and ODI teams against Afghanistan. KL Rahul is expected to be named as the wicketkeeper for the ODI squad, with Ishan Kishan likely filling the backup role instead of the struggling Rishabh Pant.

India’s sole Test match against Afghanistan is scheduled to begin on June 6, while the three-match ODI series will start on June 14.
