Ambati Rayudu commented that Arshdeep Singh has been bowling at incorrect lengths, resulting in strong performances by opposing batsmen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. On Saturday, May 24, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) won against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
However, Arshdeep struggled again, allowing 52 runs in just three overs without taking a wicket. So far in the tournament, he has taken 14 wickets across as many games, but his economy rate stands at a concerning 10.21.
Rayudu suggested that if Arshdeep gets a chance to bowl in the playoffs, he should avoid too many short deliveries. He advised the left-arm bowler to bowl fuller with the new ball and aim for yorkers in the final overs.
“I believe his lengths are an issue. He shouldn’t be bowling many short deliveries. Even at the end, he should focus on yorkers. When he has bowled fuller, the runs he has conceded aren’t as high as with short deliveries,” Rayudu said during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo Timeout.
“He needs to be aware of this because his short ball is not effective right now, possibly due to fatigue. He needs to adjust his approach and focus on fuller deliveries,” Rayudu added.
“It’s just being tired” – Mark Boucher on PBKS pacer Arshdeep’s IPL 2026 struggles
Mark Boucher shared his thoughts on Arshdeep’s poor performance in IPL 2026. The former South African wicketkeeper suggested that Arshdeep could be fatigued from participating in the T20 World Cup followed by the IPL. Boucher noted that the 27-year-old may be trying too hard to swing the ball both ways.
“I think it’s fatigue from the T20 World Cup and this month with the IPL. That’s why he is performing this way. It’s not about his skill or talent; fatigue inevitably catches up with players,” Boucher explained.
“He may be a bit tired. Unlike International players who have multiple options for rest, he has to play. I think he’s trying too hard with the new ball to get it to swing both ways,” he concluded.
