Cricket Australia has renewed Shelley Nitschke’s contract as head coach of the senior women’s cricket team until June 2029, ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Nitschke has a strong track record, having led Australia to gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Despite not reaching the finals of the T20 World Cup in the UAE in 2024 and losing to India in the ODI World Cup semifinals last year, Australia remains the top-ranked team in both formats.

“It’s a privilege to continue coaching this team and working with such an outstanding group of players and staff,” Nitschke said after signing her three-year extension. “We’ve achieved a lot together, and there’s strong motivation for what we can accomplish in the future.

“With significant events and exciting challenges ahead, I’m eager to guide the team through this next phase.”

Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg is optimistic that Nitschke will successfully lead the team through this transition, especially following the retirements of stars like Meg Lanning and Alyssa Healy.

“I am delighted Shelley will remain at the helm for the next three years,” Greenberg stated.

“She has overseen remarkable achievements and has helped maintain the team’s number one world ranking during her tenure.

“She is also managing a transition period, introducing talented young players from a growing pool of women and girls participating in our sport.”
