The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Gujarat Titans (GT) will face off in Qualifier 1 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday, May 26. Both teams feature star players, but specific matchups could decide the outcome.
Former Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher highlighted the contest between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shubman Gill as particularly important. He believes if the ball swings, Bhuvneshwar could trouble GT’s top order significantly.
“Bhuvi against Gill – I think that’s going to be a big one. If they can get Shubman Gill out early, it might apply pressure on the rest of the batting order. Bhuvi against the whole top order will be a battle, especially if he’s in form,” Boucher said during an ESPNcricinfo discussion.
Boucher also discussed the significance of Virat Kohli facing the fast-bowling pair of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada. He noted that if either bowler dismisses Kohli early, it could weaken the RCB middle order.
“Kohli is crucial, even without being captain. Getting him out early would give them a chance to penetrate the middle order, which is stronger than GT’s,” he added.
Ambati Rayudu on Key Matchup in RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Qualifier 1
Ambati Rayudu, a six-time IPL winner, stated that both teams have strong top orders, and this might balance out. He emphasizes that the match’s critical phase will be how Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan perform against the RCB middle order.
“I want to see how Prasidh handles RCB’s middle order. That’s where I feel the game will be decided. GT and RCB will likely neutralize each other at the top, but RCB is powerful in the middle overs. If Prasidh and Rashid can deliver, it will be a great match; otherwise, RCB will dominate,” Rayudu noted.
