Sachin Tendulkar’s unwavering support for Vinod Kambli shines as Kambli recovers from health issues, highlighting their legendary friendship and cricketing history.

Vinod Kambli’s brother makes stunning revelation
The friendship between Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli has always been one of cricket’s most celebrated stories. Their deep bond, formed in childhood, was famously immortalised in cricketing history through their record-breaking 664-run partnership in school cricket. Over the years, their camaraderie has been frequently highlighted both on and off the field. Now, as Kambli faces significant health challenges and continues his lengthy recovery journey, their enduring friendship has once again come into the spotlight.
Kambli’s younger brother, Virendra, has offered insight into the strong connection that still exists between the two former teammates. Despite the ups and downs of life, Tendulkar has remained a supportive presence in Kambli’s life.
In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Virendra revealed how Tendulkar continues to regularly check on Kambli’s health.
“Sachin dada has always supported Vinod. Their friendship is still very strong. Sachin calls and checks on him with Andrea [Hewitt, Vinod’s wife].”
It is often said that Kambli was the more explosive batter than Tendulkar. But they endured different fates. While Tendulkar went on to become a cricketing legend, Kambli didn’t last long in international cricket. Yet, their bond remained unbroken.
“He was closest to him. I don’t know about others, but I saw them together when I went to watch Ranji Trophy matches. I would go to the dressing room to eat, and Sachin dada, Vinod, and I would sit together and have fun. We would joke around and have a good time,” Virendra recalled.
The younger brother further shared an update on his Vibod Kambli’s recovery following a brain clot that had required hospitalisation a few months earlier.
“He is at home right now. He is getting stable, but his treatment is on. He is having difficulty speaking. It will take him time to recover. But he is a champion, and he will come back,” said Virendra.
“He will start walking and running, hopefully. I have a lot of faith in him. I hope you can see him back on the ground.”
