England head coach Charlotte Edwards views the potential return of Nat Sciver-Brunt from injury as a positive for the team’s batting lineup ahead of the T20 World Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Birmingham on June 12. Sciver-Brunt has been sidelined since last October due to a calf injury.

England is set to play warm-up matches against Australia on June 8 and India on June 10 in Cardiff, with hopes that Sciver-Brunt will participate in both. While she is expected to return, she will likely take on a batting role during the World Cup.

“Having Nat Sciver-Brunt back is exciting. She’s training this week and I hope she’ll play in the first warm-up game. She may not bowl initially, so she’ll focus on batting, which is why we’ve managed workloads carefully. It’s encouraging, especially with Freya Kemp not bowling tonight,” Edwards stated, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Edwards praised England’s recent performance against India as excellent preparation for the World Cup. The team achieved their joint second-highest run chase in T20 internationals, and their best chase at home. Despite Sciver-Brunt’s absence, England has secured 2-1 T20I series wins over both New Zealand and India, with various players stepping up in different batting positions.

Edwards commended the adaptability of England’s top six batters, including Freya Kemp. Kemp made significant contributions in the series, scoring an unbeaten 39 and taking 2 for 15 in the second T20I in Bristol, helping to level the series. The strong performances from multiple players have intensified competition for batting spots, giving Edwards much to consider as she finalizes her World Cup plans.

“These are good challenges to have. The players are currently in good form, and after a short break, we’ll regroup in Cardiff. I believe that the top six should be capable of batting anywhere, which is being demonstrated. We aim for versatility in our batting order,” Edwards added.
