Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has shared his pick for India’s greatest Test captain in a fun challenge. In this exercise, he compared several notable captains like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli.
A video from ESPNcricinfo shows Rayudu choosing between India’s Test captains, with each winner staying on to face the next name.
The challenge started with Rayudu picking Sachin Tendulkar over Mohammad Azharuddin, but Tendulkar was quickly replaced by Ganguly in the next round.
Ganguly then took control of the contest. Rayudu supported the former captain against other leaders, including Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, and Ajinkya Rahane.
This led to a final face-off between Ganguly and Kohli, both recognized for their contributions to different eras of Indian Test Cricket. Rayudu ultimately chose Kohli, naming him the winner of the challenge and his pick for India’s greatest Test captain.
Ganguly is known for changing India’s approach to overseas matches and fostering a fearless team culture in the early 2000s. In contrast, Kohli elevated Indian Test cricket, emphasizing fitness and fast bowling.
Under Kohli’s leadership, India became the top-ranked Test team and reached the final of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. He is also India’s most successful Test captain with 40 wins in 68 matches.
