Australia’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh has lost another player as Cricket Australia has approved personal leave for opener Travis Head. This adds to the team’s challenges following Mitchell Marsh’s injury, which has kept him from participating.

Marsh is recovering from an ankle injury he picked up during his time with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, which also caused him to miss the recent ODI series in Pakistan, where Australia lost 2–1.

Leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has also been ruled out due to a hamstring injury sustained during the Pakistan ODIs. Off-spinner Todd Murphy has been summoned as his replacement, marking Murphy’s first selection for an ODI.

Selectors have chosen Matt Short and Ollie Peake to fill in for Head and Marsh in the ODI squad. Head was initially selected for both formats of the Bangladesh series but has been granted leave for the entire tour. His replacement for the T20I series, which starts on June 17 in Chattogram, has not yet been announced. Cricket Australia has noted Head’s significance as an all-format player and allowed him additional rest to help manage his workload.

“Travis was initially selected in the ODI and T20I legs of this Bangladesh tour but has subsequently been granted personal leave for both,” national selector Tony Dodemaide said, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. “We look forward to seeing him again for the top-end Test series against Bangladesh.”

Josh Inglis will continue as captain for the ODI series and might also lead the T20I side if Marsh does not recover in time.
