A well-known saying in Cricket is, “Let the bat do the talking.” Indian batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi demonstrated this perfectly against Sri Lanka A in the final of the Tri-Nation A Series 2026.
After drawing attention due to a previous confrontation between the two teams, the 15-year-old showcased his talent when India A was invited to bat first. He delivered an impressive performance, scoring the fastest-ever half-century in List-A cricket.
Opening the innings with Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav found his rhythm, hitting boundaries effortlessly. In the fourth over, he hit a huge six over long-on to complete his half-century in just 11 balls, achieving a strike rate of 454.55.
He broke the previous record held by Sri Lankan player Kaushalya Weeraratne, who reached his half-century in 12 balls in 2005. Vaibhav continued to dominate the bowlers, scoring 94 runs off just 29 balls before being dismissed by Sahan Arachchige in the ninth over. His innings featured 10 fours and eight sixes.
He nearly set a new world record for being the joint-fastest centurion in List A cricket. This record is currently held by Jake Fraser-McGurk, who reached his century in 29 balls for South Australia against Tasmania in 2023. Opened by Priyansh Arya, who contributed 39 runs off 29 balls as well.
