Former fast bowler Stuart Broad is looking forward to watching Vaibhav Sooryavanshi bat in the upcoming five-match T20I series between England and India, starting on July 1. The 15-year-old has been called up to the senior squad for the first time ahead of matches against Ireland and England.
Broad believes India should include Sooryavanshi in the first T20I at Chester-le-Street, noting his impressive recent form. The left-handed batter drew attention by scoring a remarkable half-century in just 11 balls during the Tri-Nations Series final against Sri Lanka. Broad expressed excitement at the prospect of seeing Sooryavanshi in action.
“He’s got it all, hasn’t he? He’s even getting into sledging now. OK, the Cricket‘s too easy. 11 balls. That’s crazy. I just hope he plays. I think I might be starstruck by him,” Broad shared on the For the Love of Cricket podcast.
Broad emphasized that Sooryavanshi is not just a player surrounded by hype. He recently spent time in the commentary box with Dinesh Karthik during England’s second Test against New Zealand and gained insight into Sooryavanshi’s talent.
“It’s not just us buying into the hype. I’ve been speaking with Dinesh Karthik, one of the coaches at RCB. He believes Sooryavanshi is unbelievable. It’s hard to grasp how good this kid really is,” he said.
In recent months, Sooryavanshi has garnered significant attention, becoming one of India’s most discussed young players. He made a strong impact during the 2026 Indian Premier League, scoring 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30. He also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, the Orange Cap, and the Emerging Player of the Season award.
It’s worth noting that Sooryavanshi may have only played two T20Is for India before heading to England, including a match against Ireland.
