Sydney Thunder has announced a two-year contract extension for head coach Lisa Keightley, keeping her with the team until the end of the 2027 season.
Keightley’s tenure with Thunder has included both successes and challenges. In her first season in 2023, she led the team to the Eliminator, followed by a run to the Challenger in 2024. However, last season ended on a low note with a seventh-place finish.
Despite this, Keightley is optimistic about the squad’s capabilities and is enthusiastic about her continued role with the team.
“I’m really excited to be staying with Sydney Thunder for another two years,” Keightley said.
“We have the talent to become a championship-winning team. Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll have been impressive for Australia recently, adding significant strength to our batting lineup.
“We also witnessed Tahlia Wilson make her International debut for Australia based on her strong performances last year.
“Anika Learoyd had a standout season, and our young players have shown promise, including Lucy Finn, who made noteworthy contributions in her debut season.
“Last season was disappointing, but we believe we can perform much better and aim to be genuine contenders again.
“I know this group well, and with our behind-the-scenes work, I believe we are building toward something special in the upcoming season.”
Keightley’s qualifications are impressive. A former Australia batter, she is one of the most experienced female coaches in Cricket today. Her coaching experience includes roles with Australia, England, Delhi Capitals, Western Australia, New South Wales, Perth Scorchers, and Northern Superchargers. Notably, she led the Superchargers to the Women’s Hundred title in 2025.
In addition to her role with Thunder, she is the head coach of Mumbai Indians in the WPL and MI London in the Women’s Hundred, further showcasing her reputation in women’s cricket.
With this extension, Thunder hopes Keightley’s experience and vision will convert potential into championships over the next two seasons.
