Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy hero Danish Malewar and the experienced Rajat Patidar dominated the North East Zone’s weak bowling attack with impressive centuries, as Central Zone surged to 432 for 2 in 77 overs before rain interrupted play on the first day of the Duleep Trophy quarter-final on Thursday.

Malewar, 21, who scored a significant hundred in the Ranji Trophy final last season, was on a career-best 198 not out, while Patidar was more aggressive with his 125 off 96 balls. Together, they hit 56 boundaries.

Malewar, approaching his maiden first-class double century, hit 35 fours and a six, while Patidar smashed 21 fours and three sixes.

How Malewar And Patidar Dominated?

Their partnership began when opener Aryan Juyal (60 not out) retired hurt after being struck in the abdomen. Malewar and Patidar then added 199 runs for the second wicket in just over 28 overs at a brisk pace.

Malewar, nearing 1,000 runs in his 10th first-class game, was exceptional, with his third first-class century featuring 20 boundaries, the last of which marked his hundred.

Patidar reached the 90s with three consecutive reverse sweeps off Rongsen Jonathan (0/130 in 15 overs), and then a cover drive completed his 14th first-class century. He was eventually dismissed while attempting a sweep against pacer Pheiroijam Jotin, caught at deep square leg by Ankur Malik.

After Patidar’s departure, Malewar was joined by his Ranji teammate Yash Rathod, and they added another quick 85 runs for the unbroken third-wicket partnership. Rathod was unbeaten on 32 when rain stopped play.

Brief Scores: Central Zone 432/2 in 77 overs (Dinesh Malewar 198 batting, Rajat Patidar 125) vs North East Zone.
