The hookah controversy involving MS Dhoni seems to be very far from getting ended. Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan’s remarks about the former Indian captain have been garnering attention lately. In an interview, Pathan spoke about the abrupt end of his international career, followed by a comment that sparked a fresh controversy.
Pathan spoke about his interaction with Dhoni regarding his position in the first part of the video. In the latter part, he goes on to say, “I don’t have a habit of setting up a hookah in someone’s room or talking unnecessarily. Everyone knows. Sometimes, it’s better not to speak. A cricketer’s job is to perform on the field, and that’s what I focused on.”
The comments triggered the netizens as they began to join the dots, ultimately blaming Dhoni for handling the former left-hander poorly. Pathan last played international cricket in 2012, despite picking up a five-wicket haul in what turned out to be his last appearance for the country in the ODIs.
Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, has weighed in on the ongoing discussion, claiming that not just Irfan Pathan but also Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, and Harbhajan Singh had expressed concerns about their treatment under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
“It is not only about Irfan Pathan. You see Gautam Gambhir speaking about it. Virender Sehwag openly said it as well. Harbhajan Singh spoke about how he was put out of the team like a fly. You should arrange a jury on why he did what he did. MS Dhoni doesn’t want to answer. One who doesn’t want to answer has a guilty conscience,” InsideSport quoted Yograj as saying.
The former cricketer also criticised Dhoni, Kapil Dev, and Bishan Singh Bedi, accusing them of poor treatment of players.
“I talk about Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, and MS Dhoni. I can talk about people whom I have been with. They have treated people like s***. Jo galat hai wo galat hai (What’s wrong is wrong). Two wrongs cannot make one right. I say this openly, that our cricketers and team were destroyed by our captain,” he added.
