Young Indian star Shubman Gill turned 26 on Monday. Born on September 8, 1999, the teenage prodigy has turned into one of the poster boys of the Indian cricket team. His astonishing rise is reflected in his accent as India’s newly appointed Test skipper, who is also seen as a likely successor in ODIs and T20 Internationals.

In ODIs, he has scored 2,775 runs in 55 matches, with an average of 59.04 and a strike rate of 99.56. He has hit 8 centuries.
In T20Is, after recently returning to the squad for the Asia Cup 2025, the 26-year-old has made 578 runs with a strike rate close to 140.
In Test cricket, Gill bounced back strongly after a rough patch. On India’s five-Test tour of England—his first as captain—he scored a massive 754 runs. His overall Test average is now 41.35, with 9 centuries to his name.
