After India crushed United Arab Emirates, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanjay Manjrekar shared a lighthearted match fees joke post-match.
India began their Asia Cup 2025 campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) by nine wickets in Dubai on Wednesday.
But beyond the clinical victory, it was a lighthearted exchange between India captain Suryakumar Yadav and broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar that stole the show.
A One-Sided Contest in Dubai
Opting to bowl first, India’s attack—led by Kuldeep Yadav’s wrist spin—made quick work of the UAE batting lineup. Kuldeep produced a magical over, taking three wickets in four balls, and finished with figures of 4/7. Supported by Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, and Jasprit Bumrah, India bundled out the hosts for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs.
Chasing 58, India needed only 4.3 overs to wrap up the game. Young opener Abhishek Sharma smashed a rapid 30 off 16 deliveries, while vice-captain Shubman Gill anchored the chase with an unbeaten 20.
The entire contest was done and dusted in just 17.4 overs, lasting less than two hours.
Manjrekar’s Match Fees Joke
At the post-match presentation, Sanjay Manjrekar praised India’s ruthless dominance before slipping in a cheeky comment.
“It was just unbelievable. The dominance was there to see. I am just wondering whether you will get your full match fees,” Manjrekar quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd and Suryakumar himself.
The joke was in reference to the shortened duration of play, hinting at whether players deserved full compensation for a match that barely lasted half the scheduled time.
Suryakumar, smiling broadly, played along: “That we will talk about later. But yeah, clinical performance from the boys. That’s what we asked for; we wanted good energy and attitude on the field.”
Beyond the humor, the India captain reserved special praise for his bowlers, especially Kuldeep, who marked his return to international cricket after six months with a statement spell.
“Here it is very hot right now and Kuldeep did well, got good support from Hardik, Dube, and Bumrah,” Suryakumar said, crediting his bowlers for setting up the easy win.
