The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will feature an all-female panel of 14 umpires and 4 match referees for the first time, marking a historic milestone for women’s cricket.

The ICC’s efforts to empower women in cricket have reached a new milestone, with the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup set to feature an all-female group of umpires and match referees for the very first time in the tournament’s history.

Although all-female panels have been used at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the last two ICC Women’s T20 World Cups, this is the first time the Women’s ODI World Cup will achieve this historic feat.

The panel includes 14 umpires and four match referees, who will take charge during the 13th edition of the tournament, to be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30.

Experienced and Emerging Officials Enlisted

Among the umpires are several familiar names.

Claire Polosak, Jacqueline Williams, and Sue Redfern will be standing in their third Women’s World Cup, while Lauren Agenbag and Kim Cotton return for their second, having officiated during Australia’s seventh World Cup title win in 2022.

The match referee panel brings together a mix of experience and fresh faces: Trudy Anderson, Shandré Fritz, GS Lakshmi, and Michell Pereira.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah hailed the announcement as a defining moment for the sport:

“This marks a defining moment in the journey of women’s cricket, one that we hope will pave the way for many more trailblazing stories across all facets of the sport. The inclusion of an all-women panel of match officials is not only a major milestone but also a powerful reflection of the ICC’s unwavering commitment to advancing gender equity across cricket.”
