Salman Ali Agha is the captain of Pakistan’s team in the Asia Cup 2025. The Men in Green will open their campaign on Friday, September 12, against Oman in Dubai.
Two-time champions Pakistan will open their campaign in the Asia Cup 2025 on Friday, September 12, against Oman. The match between the two teams is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where on Wednesday (September 10), India bowled out the United Arab Emirates for just 57 runs in 13.1 overs and secured a big win by nine wickets.
Pakistan, like India, would also like to come up with a big show in their first match of the premier continental event against a low-key side.
Pakistan are coming into the Asia Cup 2025 under Salman Ali Agha’s leadership after winning the T20I series in Sharjah. In the summit clash of that assignment, they defeated Afghanistan by 75 runs despite posting a total of just 141 runs.
The Pakistan team management in all likelihood will continue with the same XI that played in the T20I tri-series final, which would mean that pacer Haris Rauf may have to sit out again. Rauf, who is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is, didn’t play in the tri-series final as well on Sunday, September 7.
Salman Ali Agha, who is all set to lead Pakistan for the first time in a major event, will have high expectations from Mohammad Nawaz and Saim Ayub.
Nawaz was in red-hot form for the Men in Green in the last T20I match they played against Afghanistan. He picked up a total of five wickets and also picked up a hat-trick. On the other hand, Ayub is one of the most promising young talents. The left-handed batter is known for his fearless brand of playing cricket, and he can also contribute with the ball.
Wicketkeeper Sahibzada Farhan, senior batter Fakhar Zaman, who opens in ODIs but bats at No. 3 in T20Is, Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Haris will be other key batters for Pakistan.
Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad, and he will lead the team’s pace attack, whereas the onus of spin bowling will rest upon the shoulders of Nawaz, Sufiyan Muqeem and Abrar Ahmed, along with part-timers Agha and Ayub.
Pakistan’s likely playing XI: Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha (C), Hasan Nawaz, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Haris (WK), Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Abrar Ahmed
