A public figure in English cricket is being investigated for spiking and sexual assault in south-west London.
A public figure in English cricket in his 40s is being investigated over allegations of spiking two women and sexually assaulting one of them. According to Telegraph Sport, the police questioned the individual in June after a complaint about a potential spiking — usually, adding a drug to contaminate a person’s drink without their consent with malicious intent — in a pub in south-west London. The incident happened on May 22.
“Two women are believed to have been spiked, with one also allegedly sexually assaulted. A man in his 40s was interviewed under caution on Thursday, June 5. Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Privacy laws are quite stringent in the UK and protect the accused from their identity being revealed to the public until they are charged. A primary example of this was former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, who was investigated for years without his name being disclosed publicly, until a chargesheet was filed.
The report said that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is now aware of the incident but has yet to comment on it.
Sexual harassment issues are on the rise in the sport
Cricket around the world is uncovering what many feared existed without consequences for years: several cases of sexual assault. Indian left-arm pacer Yash Dayal is currently under investigation for multiple charges of rape, some against minors.
“FIR was registered against Yash Dayal for rape under relevant sections of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita),” SHO of Jaipur’s Sanganer Sadar police station Anil Jaiman said on July 25, 2025. “She alleged that the cricketer had promised help and support in her career. He contacted her in April this year when he was in Jaipur for IPL and called her to the hotel where he allegedly raped her again.”
Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali was detained in England over charges of sexual assault but was later cleared. In the UK, a coach was suspended for nine months in August after admitting he had sent sexually explicit pictures to two female members of staff.
