In his first T20I match as India captain against Pakistan, Suryakumar Yadav led the Men in Blue to a seven-wicket win. He remained unbeaten on 47 in the 128-run chase.

Suryakumar Yadav, who is celebrating his 35th birthday on Sunday, September 14, entered his name in the history books by becoming the third Indian captain after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win a T20I match against Pakistan. Under Surya’s leadership, India chased down the target of 128 runs in 15.4 overs on Sunday to secure a big win by 7 wickets over the Men in Green in the Asia Cup 2025 match played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

During his playing days, Dhoni led India in eight T20I matches against Pakistan and won 7 of them. Rohit Sharma won three out of four T20Is against Pakistan, whereas Kohli led India in one T20I match against Pakistan in Dubai on October 24, 2021, but in that fixture, India suffered a humiliating defeat by 10 wickets.

In the Asia Cup 2025 Group A match between India and Pakistan, Surya top-scored for the Indian team in the 128-run chase. He faced 37 balls and, with the help of five fours and one six, scored 47 runs. World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma hammered 31 runs from just 13 balls, and world No. 2 T20I batter Tilak Varma also added 31 runs to India’s total from 31 balls.

For Pakistan, Saim Ayub picked up three wickets for 35 runs in four overs, but the likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz remained wicketless. Nawaz, who was described as the best spinner in the world at the moment by Pakistan’s head coach Mike Hesson, bowled three overs and conceded 27 runs but was not able to take one wicket even.

The Indian team will now next face Oman in Abu Dhabi on Friday, September 19, whereas Pakistan’s last Group A match is scheduled against the UAE in Dubai on Wednesday, September 17.
