Playing for Tasmania, Matthew Wade peeled off a blistering hundred to set up a big win.

Former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade played a starring role in Tasmania’s big 109-run win over Victoria in a One-Day Cup 2025-26 match on Friday. Wade, who after retiring from international cricket has turned to coaching, belted a 65-ball hundred to propel Tasmania to a mammoth total of 381-all out in 49.3 overs. In reply, Victoria were bowled out for 272 in 40.1 overs.

Tasmania were off to a flier, racing away to 56/2 in just five overs courtesy Mitchell Owen’s blistering half-century. Beau Webster took over once Owen exited for 53 with the Aussie allrounder hitting 81 off 95.

Wade scored 105 off 68 with the help of eight fours and six sixes while Nikhil Chaudhary struck 67 off 49.

Wade scored 40 in the Tasmania’s opening match and with 145 runs from two innings, is the current leading run-getter of the tournament followed by Marnus Labuschagne (130) at the second spot and Peter Handscombe (116) at third respectively.

Wade joined Australia’s coaching staff for their T20I series against Pakistan in November last year. Earlier this year, he served as IPL franchise Gujarat Titans’ assistant coach.

The 37-year-old played 15 IPL matches – 3 in 2011 for Delhi Capitals and 12 for GT in 2022 and 2024. 10 of his appearances for GT came in their title winning season.

Wade made his international debut in October 2011 and went on to represent Australia in all three formats. He played 36 Tests, 97 ODIs and 92 T20Is, scoring a combined 4682 runs in them including five centuries 19 half-centuries.

He took 240 catches and effected 26 stumpings as well.

Wade was part of Australia’s T20 World Cup winning squad in 2021 playing a key role in the campaign. In the semifinal clash against Pakistan, with Australia needing 177 to win, Wade blasted an unbeaten 17-ball 41 including two fours and four sixes as they chased down the target in 19 overs for a five-wicket win.

Wade also ended his red-ball career last year but continues to play limited-overs cricket.
