Former India U19 cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill passed away at 36 in Chandigarh on Wednesday. He played alongside notable players like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in age-group Cricket and competed with Yuvraj Singh in domestic matches.
Amanpreet played several Youth ODIs and traveled with Kohli’s team to England, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia, but was not part of India’s squad for the 2008 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup.
As a right-arm medium pacer, he participated in six first-class matches for Punjab, taking 11 wickets, with his best figures being 4/72. He was also part of the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) during the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.
In honor of Amanpreet, all Punjab Kings players donned black armbands during match No. 49 of the IPL against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 6 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
At the time of his passing, Amanpreet was serving on the Senior Selection Committee for the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA).
