MS Dhoni will miss the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) final match of the IPL 2026 against Gujarat Titans on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. CSK’s batting coach, Michael Hussey, announced that Dhoni is dealing with a thumb injury.

Hussey mentioned that Dhoni has returned to his hometown of Ranchi but could rejoin the team if CSK qualifies for the playoffs. If CSK is eliminated after this match, it would mark the first season since the IPL began in 2008 where Dhoni has not played a game.

“I can confirm he is not here with the team, but if we qualify, he will definitely join back up with us. He has a sore thumb that is recovering, but he won’t be ready for this match. Hopefully, if we get through to the playoffs, he will be fine,” Hussey said in the pre-match press conference.
