Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Kusal Mendis as captain for the limited-overs formats ahead of the upcoming tour to West Indies. Dhananjaya de Silva will continue to lead the Test team. Mendis takes over the ODI captaincy from Charith Asalanka and also succeeds Dasun Shanaka in T20Is, who previously led the team during the T20 World Cup 2026 held in Sri Lanka.
Kamindu Mendis will be Kusal’s deputy in the ODI format. Shanaka remains in the 16-member T20I squad, while Asalanka has not been selected. The tour will see the return of wrist-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, included in both ODI and T20I squads after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the T20 World Cup.
Hasaranga has not played since February and missed the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026, where he was set to play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Sri Lanka’s tour to West Indies will start on June 3 with a three-match ODI series, followed by a T20I series of the same number. The two Tests are scheduled at the Viv Richards Stadium in North Sound from June 25 to 29 and July 3 to 7.
