India’s left-arm spinner Shree Charani expressed disappointment over missing a chance to win the second T20I against England in Bristol, but she remains focused on the next game to secure the series victory.

England won the second match by 26 runs, tying the series at 1-1 after India had claimed the first T20I by 38 runs in Chelmsford. The series serves as important preparation for both teams ahead of their T20 World Cup campaign.

“Every match is crucial for us to build confidence and gain experience. Winning would have put us in a stronger position. Now, we have a significant challenge ahead, and we will embrace it,” Charani said during the post-match press conference, as reported by NDTV.

England chose to bat first, scoring 168 for 5 in their allocated 20 overs. All-rounder Freya Kemp contributed a quick 39 not out off 13 balls, hitting 24 runs off Arundhati Reddy’s last over. India managed to score 142 for 9 in their 20 overs. Kemp also shined with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 15 runs in 2 overs, including key players Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues.

Despite the loss, the 21-year-old Charani stood out with figures of 3 for 16, taking vital wickets including opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge, wicketkeeper Amy Jones, and former captain Heather Knight. She trusts her abilities and focuses on her strengths, particularly her capacity to turn the ball.

“I aim to bowl to my strengths. I don’t overthink; I just stick to my routine. I believe that turning the ball is key for me,” she noted.

The third and final T20I is set to take place in Taunton on Tuesday, June 2. The Indian team will have two warm-up matches in Cardiff on June 8 and 10 before beginning their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on June 14 at Edgbaston.
