Rohit Sharma is recovering from a hamstring injury he got during the IPL. He has been going through rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in preparation for India’s three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

Both Rohit and Virat Kohli, who is injured and not playing in this series, are aiming for the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Former India opener Wasim Jaffer mentioned that Rohit’s experience is valuable, especially in crucial matches. However, he noted that the final decision on whether Rohit will participate in the World Cup will be made by the coaches and selectors.

“I think Rohit Sharma is still playing and has made himself available. So I am sure his focus will be on the 2027 World Cup. From Rohit Sharma’s perspective, I don’t think there is any doubt about that. Now it depends on the coaches and selectors. But I think seeing Rohit Sharma still playing and making himself available since he is currently playing only this format, if he is playing, then I am sure his focus will be on the 2027 World Cup,” Jaffer said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Rohit’s form is a bit inconsistent at the moment, but as I said, we cannot question his credibility because of the experience he brings. Now it depends on what the selectors and coaches think. But Rohit Sharma’s experience and his temperament in big matches cannot be doubted. And if he is making himself available, I am sure he will not leave any stone unturned to play in the 2027 World Cup. His goal will be to lift that World Cup trophy, which he missed out on in 2023. So I am sure he is working towards that,” he added.

Rohit was unfortunately run out in the first ODI, scoring 16 runs from 16 balls after a miscommunication with captain Shubman Gill. Despite this, India won the match comfortably, chasing down a target of 195 runs with seven wickets and 13 balls to spare in a 25-over-per-side contest.
