India’s hopes of winning the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 have taken a serious hit as Shreyanka Patil, a promising spin-bowling allrounder, will miss the rest of the tournament due to an ankle ligament injury. She is expected to be out for several weeks to recover.
In light of Patil’s injury, India has called up 24-year-old leg-spinner Prema Rawat as her replacement. This will be Rawat’s first time in the national team. She was instrumental in India’s victory at the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament earlier this year, taking eight wickets in five matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.27 runs per over, including best figures of 3/12.
Patil injured her ankle while fielding in the first over against the Netherlands on June 17. She twisted her ankle badly and needed to be taken off the field on a stretcher.
