WV Raman has called on Cricket fans worldwide to give Vaibhav Sooryavanshi the time he needs to gain experience. At just 15 years old, he is new to domestic cricket and has earned his first call-up to the Indian team after impressive performances against top bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sooryavanshi has been selected for India’s squads in the T20I series in Ireland and England, as well as for the Asian Games later this year. He is on track to become the youngest player to debut for India. Sachin Tendulkar currently holds this record, having debuted at 16 years and 205 days. Sooryavanshi, who turned 15 in March, is set to surpass this milestone.
While the cricket community is eager to see what Sooryavanshi will achieve, Raman warned against placing too much pressure on him with high expectations.
“Let’s not predict what he can become. He has done well in two consecutive IPL seasons and is not afraid to face the best. Experience can be harsh but also educational. He will learn valuable lessons as he plays. Let’s just let him enjoy his game,” WV Raman stated.
Sooryavanshi is currently in Sri Lanka, participating in matches for India A under the captaincy of Tilak Varma. Despite this, he has struggled in tough conditions and was involved in a dispute with Sri Lanka A players during the fourth match, which went to the Super Over. He pushed Vishen Halambage, who had been taunting him since their initial encounter.
In four matches, Sooryavanshi has scored 117 runs with an average of 29.25 and a strike rate of 153.95. He will aim to end the campaign strongly with a significant score in the final match on Sunday, June 21.
