Mohammad Kaif emphasized that India will benefit from the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the 2027 ODI World Cup. His comments followed Rohit’s impressive performance in the third and final ODI against Afghanistan at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20.
After scoring 16 and 48 in the first two ODIs, Rohit made a strong comeback, scoring 79 off 69 balls on Saturday. Yashasvi Jaiswal also contributed, scoring an unbeaten century (110 off 86) as India successfully chased down a target of 219 runs in just 28.4 overs, winning by nine wickets. Afghanistan was defeated 0-3 in the series.
Kaif expressed his confusion over the criticism aimed at Rohit, stating that a few low scores do not define his abilities. He expressed hope that Rohit maintains this form leading into the ODI World Cup next year, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
“I don’t understand why many want Rohit Sharma to fail. It’s commendable how he has tackled challenges. He has led India to the Champions Trophy and performed well against teams like Australia and New Zealand, and now he scored 79 against Afghanistan. A few low scores can’t measure his talent. As Cricket followers, we should hope he brings this performance into the 2027 World Cup. India needs the experience of both Rohit and Virat Kohli,” Kaif shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
