England is set to host Bangladesh in a one-off Test in late May 2027, just before the home Ashes series against Australia later that year.
The match’s venue is still to be confirmed and will likely depend on where the 2027 ICC World Test Championship Final is held. England will travel to Bangladesh for a two-match Test series in February 2027, followed by a one-off Test against Australia in Melbourne in March. This arrangement could lead to the Three Lions playing nine Tests against Australia and Bangladesh in a short timeframe.
According to The Guardian, the ECB has an agreement with the ICC to host the World Test Championship Finals in London until 2031. Lord’s has been suggested as the venue for the 2027 final, having already hosted the finals in 2023 and 2025. However, due to concerns about the pitch, the ECB is considering moving the final to the Oval.
The ECB’s contract with Marylebone Cricket Club guarantees two Tests each summer. If Lord’s is not chosen for the WTC final, it is likely to host the Bangladesh Test. The pitch at Lord’s has faced criticism, as evidenced by England’s 115-run victory over New Zealand achieved in just 166 overs, aided by variable bounce and movement.
The ECB has faced backlash regarding the choice of venues for the 2027 Ashes, which will take place at Edgbaston, Trent Bridge, and the Rose Bowl, as well as the Oval and Lord’s. With Lord’s also set to host the Bangladesh match, no Test cricket will occur at northern venues like Headingley and Old Trafford that year.
Additionally, Old Trafford was expected to host the pre-Ashes Test in 2027, but Lancashire may step back if compensated fairly by the ECB. The ECB is expected to finalize the 2027 summer schedule by next month.
