England captain Harry Brook believes the T20 World Cup 2026 could see record-breaking batting achievements, with scores over 300 being possible in India. Speaking at the pre-tournament captains’ meeting, Brook highlighted various venues in India that could support such high totals.

In T20 Cricket, only two full-member teams have scored more than 300 runs. England reached 304 against South Africa in 2025, while Zimbabwe set the record with 344 runs against Gambia the previous year, making it the highest score in T20 history.

Brook pointed out the challenges for bowlers when fast outfields and short boundaries come into play. High scores are becoming common in T20 matches, aided by better pitch conditions, advanced batting equipment, and a more aggressive batting style.

“India has many grounds where a score of 300 or more is definitely achievable,” Brook mentioned.

“The pitches are looking great right now, with quick outfields and short boundaries. Players just need to be fearless, focus less on getting out, and keep attacking the bowlers,” he added.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram shared his views on how batting strategies have changed, stating that players focus more on sequences of balls rather than traditional overs.

“The game is changing quickly. It’s less about winning overs now and more about concentrating on small clusters of balls. Stringing together a few good deliveries can really make a difference, which is tough for bowlers,” Markram explained.

Both Brook and Markram acknowledged the pressures bowlers face, emphasizing the importance of calm leadership, especially during high-scoring games.

“Staying calm is critical,” Brook said.

“Sometimes, you need to slow things down, but when you’re in a good position, speed things up. Above all, remaining calm is important, and you need to help your bowlers stay composed as well.”
