The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has already showcased some thrilling moments, and on February 9, a remarkable play took place at Colombo’s Singhalese Sports Club (SSC). In the 8th Match of Group B, Zimbabwe faced off against Oman in a match marked by strong pace bowling and a standout defensive play by Brian Bennett.
While Zimbabwe’s performance appeared dominant on the scorecard, the highlight of the match came during the final moments of Oman’s innings.
Brian Bennett makes a stunning catch against Nadeem Khan in ZIM vs OMA match
The excitement peaked in the 19.5 over of the first innings. Oman struggled to reach a competitive score against Zimbabwe’s disciplined bowling attack and called on Nadeem Khan for a final push. Brad Evans, who had bowled impressively, delivered a clever, slower ball aimed at the stumps. Nadeem, looking to hit a big shot, stepped out of his crease but struck the ball with the inside edge of his bat, sending it towards the deep midwicket boundary.
For a moment, it seemed the ball would drop harmlessly. However, Brian Bennett had other ideas. Covering an impressive 15 meters, Bennett sprinted after the ball and made a full-stretch dive, catching it just inches from the ground. Despite hitting the turf hard, his grip on the ball was secure, ending Nadeem’s innings at 20 runs off 18 balls and concluding Oman’s total at 103.
Evans had remarkable bowling figures of 3 for 18, but the moment of celebration was undoubtedly Bennett’s acrobatic catch, showcasing Zimbabwe’s high standards in fielding during the World Cup.
