As the T20 World Cup 2026 progresses, defending champions India are working on their lineup ahead of their next Group A match. Despite winning their first game against USA, the team faced challenges that raised questions about the ideal playing XI. Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has suggested a notable change in the bowling strategy for the upcoming match against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

India’s tricky start: A wake-up call for the champions

India’s title defense began with a tough match at the Wankhede Stadium. Against a determined USA team, the “Men in Blue” struggled early, battling a disciplined bowling attack on a pitch with good grip. Captain Suryakumar Yadav scored a crucial 84, saving the team from a potential upset after they were reduced to 46/4 during the Powerplay. This situation highlighted the need for focus and determination, even as favorites in this tournament.

Sanjay Bangar advises one change in India’s bowling attack for the clash against Namibia

As the tournament moves to the capital, Bangar believes it’s time to bring back their leading bowler. Speaking on Star Sports, he recommended reintroducing Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the opening match due to workload management issues. Interestingly, he suggested that Mohammed Siraj should sit out, despite his strong performance in Mumbai.

“I certainly see Jasprit Bumrah making it to the playing XI, and the player to miss out would be the in-form Mohammed Siraj,” Bangar stated.

This recommendation surprised some, considering Siraj’s good form, but Bangar’s reasoning focuses on maintaining balance in the bowling attack and utilizing Bumrah’s top-notch accuracy in the crucial middle and death overs as the tournament heats up.

Indian bowlers shine despite batting woes

While the batters faced difficulties against the USA, the Indian bowlers showcased their reputation as one of the best in the world. Defending a modest total of 161, they effectively controlled the American chase.

Mohammed Siraj stood out with figures of 3/29, including a crucial yorker to secure the win. Arshdeep Singh supported well, finishing with 2/18, keeping the run rate in check. This strong bowling performance led India to a 29-run victory, but Bangar’s insights suggest that they might adjust their winning combination as they gear up to face Namibia this Thursday.
