New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell will miss the remainder of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to a re-injury of his left calf. The 34-year-old was recovering from a calf tear sustained in the third ODI against India last month but suffered a setback during warm-ups on Sunday before the match against Afghanistan. Scans have revealed that he will need about three weeks to recover before he can return to play.
New Zealand has named Cole McConchie as a traveling reserve, but he has not yet been added to the squad as a replacement. McConchie has played 145 T20 matches and recently had a successful domestic season, being the leading wicket-taker for the Canterbury Kings with 14 wickets at an economy rate of 7.71.
The team will face South Africa in their third Group D match on Saturday, June 14, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Bearing Bracewell’s absence is a notable loss for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026. He is a key player who contributes significantly with both bat and ball. As a batsman, he often steps up during crucial moments, and as a bowler, he can secure important wickets that shift momentum in matches.
Additionally, Bracewell brings valuable experience and leadership, aiding younger players on the field. His absence will be strongly felt, and locating a suitable replacement for someone of his caliber will be challenging for New Zealand as they prepare for the clash against South Africa.
